Kawasaki 'Lightning Bolt'

Bonneville Speed Week in August of 1978 saw a new record set by 'Lightning Bolt' of 315.441 MPH without many problems. The team were well prepared and knew that given better conditions this would soon be improved on by them. September came and they were able to prove this with record runs to average 318.518 MPH, which was to eventually stand for nearly two more years. The Harley-Davidson 'Easy Rider' liner took the record with a speed of 322.149 MPH in 1990 and retains the record to this date (1998). One of the Lightning Bolt' one way runs in 1978 was clocked at 333.928 MPH, the fastest ever two wheel run in history to date. This famous liner was destroyed at El Mirage dry lake 1979 in an end over end crash after setting a 214.28 MPH record.
